Kärntner Ortstafelkonflikt#
Carinthian Conflict over Bilingual Signposts, in 1972 the Nationalrat (with the votes of the Austrian Social Democrats) passed a law on road signs which, in accordance with Article 7 of the State Treaty stipulated that bilingual Carinthian villages and towns should have bilingual road signs. Extremists illegally demonstrated against the law, removed many road signs and thus prevented the implementation of the law.
