Kinderübernahmestelle#
Kinderuebernahmestelle (Foster Care Service) was established in Vienna to take care of children who lack the protective atmosphere of home for short or long periods and are therefore placed with municipal institutions. The Foster Care Service was founded in 1925 by J. Tandler and was the first European institution that placed neglected children into institutional or foster care. Since the 60s more emphasis has been put on the psychological well-being of young people and on establishing small homelike units (cottage system) for neglected young people. Today the Foster Care Service is an institution of the Youth Welfare Office of Vienna.
