Kitting#
Kitting (also called "Kasten"), small building or loft used by a farmer for storing grain; with a wooden pointed barrel vault and with a thick protective layer of clay on the outside; a "kitting" has a special kind of thatched roof which can be pushed off in case of fire; it can be a separate building or an annex to the farmhouse. Kittings are rare but can still be found occasionally in southern Burgenland and in the open-air museums of Bad Tatzmannsdorf, Gerersdorf near Guessing and Stinatz.
