Kleinklein#
Kleinklein, Styria, village in the district of Leibnitz, alt. 298 m, in the lower Saggau valley, part of the municipality of Grossklein. The small castle northwest of Kleinklein was the centre of a separate cultural province of the Hallstatt culture called the Sulmtal-group, and within a radius of 2 km there are 700 barrows. The nobility was buried in so-called "princely graves" (up to 7 m high and 49 m wide) with valuable artifacts, e.g. bronze vessels with ornaments and some with figurines; a death mask and 2 hands made from bronze tin are the best known finds. Ottersbach Castle (built around 1616) near Kleinklein has richly ornated stucco ceilings (18th century).
