Krakaudorf#
Krakaudorf, Styria, municipality in the district of Murau, alt. 1,173 m, pop. 640, area 29.68 km2, scattered settlement in the mountains near the southern edge of the Niedere Tauern mountain range. - Main sources of income: agriculture, summer tourism (17,280 overnight stays).- Romanesque-Gothic parish church (1759-1767 remodelled in Baroque style), timber-panelled ceiling (1534) and frescoes by J. Lederwasch (1793); Late Gothic church of St. Ulrich (1478-1497) with winged altarpiece (1521) in the municipality of Krakauhintermuehlen. Customs: Samson procession on the feast day of St. Oswald (first Sunday in August), biennial carnival run.
The Krakau Valley lies between the Mur Valley and the Niedere Tauern
mountains and is drained by the Rantenbach stream. The area, which is
highly interesting in terms of folklore, comprises the municipalities
of Krakau, Krakauschatten (alt. 1,124 m, pop. 327) and
Krakauhintermuehlen with the Krakau Plain (alt.1,260 m, pop. 579).
