Krapfen#
Krapfen, small cakes fried in fat or lard, similar to doughnuts, are made in various forms and sizes and can be prepared and decorated in different ways. Krapfen are usually made for special occasions like All Saints' Day, kirmess and weddings or during certain times of the year (carnival, mowing and harvesting in summer) and are accordingly given different names. Carnival-Krapfen filled with apricot jam were once considered a Viennese speciality.
