Krauß, Werner#
Krauss, Werner, b. Gestungshausen near Coburg (Germany), June 23, 1884, d. Vienna, Oct. 20, 1959, Kammerschauspieler. Outstanding character actor endowed with strong expressive power, perfect elocution and an almost magic ability to take on different roles. Worked at German theatres and at the Vienna Burgtheater (1928/29, member of the company 1933-1944 and from 1948), parts in silent and sound films ("Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari", 1920; "Burgtheater", 1936; "Praemien auf den Tod", 1950); 1940 played up to Nazi propaganda with the film "Jud Suess", was imprisoned in 1945 and not allowed to perform again until 1948. Numerous awards (1954 Iffland Ring, 1959 honorary member of the Burgtheater).
