Kriegsopferversorgung#
War Victims' Benefits: Austrian citizens who suffered physical handicaps during the two World Wars ( war victims) or during the time of Allied occupation (1945-55), are entitled to compensation payments under the War Victims'Benefits Act (KOVG 1957). Personal injuries in connection with the new Austrian Federal Army, on the other hand, are not covered by the KOVG but by the Army Benefits Act (Heeresversorgungsgesetz - HVG).
Benefits under the KOVG comprise a base pension, the amount of which
depends on the severity of the disability, i.e. the reduction of the
recipient's earning power, income-dependent supplementary allowances
and other benefits. Dependants of deceased persons with severe
handicaps are eligible for dependants' pensions or allowances. As of
July 1, 1997, a total of 85,038 pensions or benefits were paid under
the KOVG to handicapped persons or their dependants.
