Loiben#
Loiben, Lower Austria, 2 villages in the district of Krems an der Donau, alt. 203 m, at the Danube, in the Wachau region. The villages of Ober- and Unterloiben are cadastral districts of the town Duernstein. -Fruit and wine growing (e.g. Dinstlgut). On November 11, 1805 an Austrian-Russian army defeated the Napoleonic troops in the plain of Loiben (so-called French memorial in Ober.-Loiben, 1805). In Unter.-Loiben parish church of St. Quirin (originally Gothic hall church, rebuilt in the 15th century with two naves), high altar with altar panel by M. J. Schmidt (1782), stone Pietà in the south porch (around 1415).
