Martinelli, Domenico#
b. Lucca (Italy), Nov. 30, 1650, d. Lucca (Italy), Sept. 11, 1718, architect, greatly appreciated by the nobility. From 1690 in Vienna, where he had decisive influence on architecture with his palaces in block form, with façades clearly organized by projecting surfaces. Often more successful than his rival, J. B. Fischer von Erlach, who favoured more dramatic designs, M. was supported by D. A. Count Kaunitz for whom he built the Palace of Austerlitz (Slavkov u Brna, Czech Republic). In 1705 M. moved to Italy.
