Meinhardiner, Herrschergeschlecht#

Meinhardiner, ruling dynasty, mentioned around 1130 as Counts of Gorizia ( Goerzer Grafen); inherited the Tyrol in 1253 (Meinhard III of Gorizia, as Count Meinhard I of the Tyrol). In 1271, Albert II (Gorizia) and Meinhard II (Tyrol) had to share their inherited territories and divided them along the Muehlbach Gorge on the west side of the Puster valley. In 1286, Meinhard II was given Carinthia, which fell to the Habsburgs in 1335 after the death of his son Heinrich VI (King of Bohemia 1307-1310). In the Tyrol, Heinrich's daughter, Margarete Maultasch (and her husbands, then her son Meinhard III) reigned until 1363, when she had to hand her territories over to the Habsburgs in accordance with an inheritance contract.
