Meister der St. Lambrechter Votivtafel auch Votivtafelmeister#

Meister der St. Lambrechter Votivtafel (also: Votivtafelmeister), panel painter, worked around 1420-1440, probably in Vienna or Wr. Neustadt. Main representative of the late International Style in Austria during the transition period to Austrian Realism; worked in the tradition of the see Master of the Veneration of Christ. His style shows affinities to that of the Master of the Presentation in the Temple Meister der Darbringungen, of the Meister der Mondsichel-Madonna (Master of the Madonna of the Crescent Moon) and of the Master of the altar of St. Andreas Meister des Andreasaltars. His work also contains elements from glass painting and sculpture. The combination of so many different influences in the artist's work shows that he must have had a renowned workshop. He has often been identified as Hans von Tuebingen, of whom only the name is known. The artist is named after a votive panel created for the monastery of St. Lambrecht (Styria), depicting the victory of King Ludwig I of Hungary over the Bulgarians in 1377, with the Virgin of the Protecting Cloak. The panel was created before 1430 and is kept at the Joanneum in Graz. Numerous panels depicting Passion scenes have been ascribed to him. The only known dated work of the artist is the epitaph of goldsmith Sigmund Waloch of Wiener Neustadt (1434, National Gallery, Prague).
