Memento-mori-Dichtung#
Memento-mori Poetry, collective name for those texts of Religious Literature of the late 11th and 12th centuries which were influenced by the Cluniac Reform and which, in line with the counsel ("remember you must die") from which their name is derived, exhort both clerics and laymen to do penance and mend their ways. Typical examples, often written in drastic language, from the area of contemporary Austria are works by Heinrich von Melk, "Die Warnung" ("The Warning"), and others.
