Morgenstern, Oskar#
b. Goerlitz (Germany), Jan. 24, 1902, d. New York (USA), July 26, 1977, political economist. After completing his university studies in Vienna director of the Austrian Institute for Trade Cycle Research from 1930-1938 and university professor in Vienna from 1935-1938. Left Austria for the USA in 1938, where he taught at Princeton and became director of the Economic Research Programme. Founded the Institut fuer Hoehere Studien (IHS) in Vienna in 1963 of which he was director until 1970; later returned to the USA (taught in New York until 1976). M. was the founder of the game theory and exerted great influence as advisor to the US government.
