Nordbahn#
Railway, Northern ("Kaiser-Ferdinands-Nordbahn"), first Austrian steam railway line, financed by S. Rothschild; from 1837 first track between Floridsdorf and Deutsch-Wagram, 1838 extended to Vienna, in 1839 to Lundenburg (Břeclav) and Bruenn (Brno), and to Kraków in 1846; nationalized in 1907. Vienna´s Nordbahnhof station was destroyed in World War II, since then express trains have departed from Vienna´s Suedbahnhof station; a new "Nordbahn" bridge and a new Nordbahnhof station were built for Vienna´s Schnellbahn suburban service in the Praterstern area in 1962.
