Nußdorf, Wiener Bezirksteil#
Nussdorf, part of Vienna´s 19th district (since 1890/92) at the foot of the Nussberg hill, where the Donaukanal canal branches off the River Danube, former wine-growing and fishing village; wine taverns. Documented mention 1114, boom in the 19th century due to construction of a landing place for ships on the Danube, a cog railway to the Kahlenberg hill, a brewery and cafes for day tourists; station on the Franz-Josefs-Bahn railway line. The parish church (first documented mention 1411) was rebuilt 1787-1789, the parsonage was altered in 1783. The small castle (built as a mill in 1428) is supposed to have been altered by J. L. von Hildebrand between 1712 and 1716, in two halls, wall paintings (1716) in the manner of J. G. Schmidt; renovated in 1920, demolished 1959/60. Nussdorf bridge (built by O. Wagner 1894-98) across the Donaukanal canal.
