Obergurgl#
Obergurgl, Tirol, village in the district of Imst, alt. 1,907 m, bi-seasonal tourist centre in the Gurgl valley, in the municipality of Soelden. "Glacier village" ( Gurgl Glacier) in the Oetztal Alps and the parish at the highest altitude in Austria. - Federal sports facility, alpine research station of Innsbruck University (established 1951), sports centre, multipurpose hall with tourist office, toll station run by Timmelsjoch-Hochalpenstrasse AG, cable railway to the top of Festkogel mountain (alt. 3,038 m). Surrounding area: weather-stations (Schoenwieskogel mountain, alt. 2,324 m). Parish church (consecration in 1737), in 1967 extensions according to plans by C. Holzmeister, bell (1726). Waterfalls of the Rotmoosache, a river in the vicinity of Obergurgl.
