Peuerbach#

Peuerbach, Upper Austria, town in the district of Grieskirchen, alt. 390 m, pop. 2,098, area 11.02 km2, commercial and industrial town near the confluence of the Rivers Faule Aschach and Duerre Aschach, in the upper Hausruckviertel region. - District court, highway maintenance depot, production of switches, meat products, factory for leather goods, building industry, trade. - Documented mention around 1120; Gothic houses with Baroque and Classicist fronts; parish church redecorated in Baroque style (17th century) with Gothic core, sculptures from the workshop of the Schwanthaler family, tombstones with heraldic ornaments (15th -17th centuries), Holy Cross chapel (1711-1721); filial church of Maria-Hilf (1429/30); Renaissance palace (1571, provincial crib, peasant war museum, permanent exhibit on Georg von Peuerbach), three-winged building with 2-storied portal (1574); pillory (1571), astrolabe chronometer on the town hall.
