Pillewizer, Wolfgang#
b. Steyr (Upper Austria), July 4, 1911, geographer and cartographer. 1948-1958 at the Geographic-Cartographical Institute in Munich, from 1958 university professor in Dresden and 1971-1981 professor at the Institute of Cartography and Reproduction Technology at the University of Technology in Vienna. Took part in many expeditions (also scientific director of the Austro-German Himalayas-Karakorum expedition 1954, Spitzbergen 1962-1965), concentrated mainly on geomorphological studies and the cartography of high mountains. 1988 a summit (3,000 m) in Salzburg, 2 km north of the Grossvenediger mountain between Ober- and Untersulzbachkees was named after him.
