Privileg#

Privilege, special right granted to a sovereign, a group (mine, town, etc.) or other persons by superior authorities, usually enshrined in a document. Privileges included the right to hold markets, the right to levy tolls, the right of coinage, customs exemptions and in the 18th  and 19th  centuries licences to run a factory or carry out a trade (temporary exclusive privilege).
