Regionalpolitik#

Regional Policy, implementation of measures of regional planning and development by the appropriate political bodies and authorities, often in cooperation with neighbouring administrative authorities. Regional policy can either apply to a group of municipalities (water supply, disposal, recreation areas, schools etc) or to several provinces (public transport communities, economic areas, medical care, universities, nature reserves etc.). Major regional policy areas are the eastern region (Vienna, major part of Lower Austria, northern Burgenland), the regions around Graz, Innsbruck, Carinthia and East Tirol, Linz (including the major part of Upper Austria and the western areas of Lower Austria), Salzburg with parts of Upper Austria and the region around Lake Constance (extending beyond the Austrian border). All necessary measures, which generally require continuous financial contributions, are laid down in agreements and accords between the municipalities or provinces concerned.
