Riesenrad#
Giant Wheel (Riesenrad), one of the landmarks on the Viennese skyline, at the entrance of the Prater amusement park; 64.75 metres high, built according to plans by the English architects W. Basset and H. Hitchins; completed by R. Fellendorf; put into operation on July 3, 1897. In 1945 the 30 cabins that originally served as gondolas were destroyed by a fire; as the steel construction was damaged, only 15 new cabins were fixed. The Giant Wheel is exactly aligned in a North-South direction.
