Sandl#
Sandl, Upper Austria, municipality in the district of Freistadt, alt. 927 m, pop. 1,558, area 58.36 km2, at the foot of the Viehberg Mountain (alt. 1,112 m, skiing resort), the highest mountain in the eastern Muehlviertel Region, near the border with the Czech Republic; after 1800 centre of Églomise Painting (influx of painters from Buchers in Bohemia). - Museum of eglomise painting (since 1989), customs post; marble quarry with stone industry, some summer tourism. - Baroque parish church (1739-1742), interior from around 1740-1760; Rosental Palace(1780-1790), with grand hall decorated in Josephinian classicist style. In the vicinity of Sandl, upper and lower Rosenhofer Ponds.
