Schröcken#

Schroecken, Vorarlberg, municipality in the district of Bregenz, alt. 1,269 m, pop. 239, area 23.43 km2, winter tourism (69,184 overnight stays in 1992), located in the Hinterer Bregenzerwald mountain region, source of the Bregenzerach river, south-west of the Hochtannberg Pass (1,676 m). - Children´s holiday home. - Settled by Walsers around 1300. Neo-Romanesque parish church (1864-1867), old Einhof and Paarhof farmhouse types; Koerbersee lake nearby. The construction of the Tannbergbruecke bridge in 1935 (90 m long, 50 high) across the 45 m deep gorge of the Seebach river opened up the mountain village to tourism.
