Schwab, Werner#

b. Graz (Styria), Feb. 4, 1958, d. Graz (Styria), Jan. 1, 1994, dramatist. Studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with B. Gironcoli from 1978-1982, made sculptures out of perishable materials and staged avant-garde performances. Wrote altogether 146 stage plays after 1990, which were characterised by his uncompromising depiction of human life. Was regarded as one of the great talents of Austrian theatre and during his lifetime already received great attention at the big theatres in Austria and Germany. Died early due to intemperate life-style. Awarded the Muehlheimer Dramatikerpreis 1992.
