Schwanberg#
Schwanberg, Styria, market town in the district of Deutschlandsberg, alt. 427 m, pop. 2,135, area 12.00 km2, summer tourist destination (19,837 overnight stays in 1992) at the source of the Schwarze Sulm River in the Koralpe region, south of Deutschlandsberg. - Provincial nursing home, facility for mud bath treatments, electric power station (private); plumbing workshop, metal-working industry. - Romanesque and late Gothic parish church with Gothic north chapel; former Capuchin church (consecrated 1714) and monastery (until 1969, 1971-1973 converted into a health centre for mud bath treatments); filial church of St. Joseph (1685); palace (around 1581, today a nursing home) with courtyard and arcades; Ackerbuerger half-timber houses (18th -19th centuries) with beautiful façades; column dedicated to the Virgin Mary (1717).
