Schwartz, Stefan#
b. Nitra, Slovakia (then Neutra), Aug. 20, 1851; Raab an der Thaya (Lower Austria), July 31, 1924. Sculptor and medallist. After training as a craftsman and artist achieved his breakthrough at the World Exhibition of 1873; from 1876 at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts, professor in 1884. Also produced statuettes, arts and craft objects, engravings and architectural sculptures. S. was talented for both decorative and figurative art and is regarded as a versatile representative of elegant Late Historicism with special preference for portraits.

Vienna: Collaboration on buildings along the Ringstrasse (Parliament, Hofburg Imperial Palace, Dumba palace) and on the Crown Prince's Armoire (1881, Museum of Applied Art); monument of R. v.
