Semperit Reifen Ges. m. b. H. ( until 1999 known as Semperit Reifen AG), emerged from the Gummifabrik Miskolczy & Co. OHG which was founded in 1896 in Traiskirchen (Lower Austria); transformed into the Semperit Gummiwerke GmbH in 1906; as Semperit Oesterreichisch-Amerikanische Gummiwerke AG cooperated with most of the rubber factories of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy from 1912. Development of the world´s first winter tyre in 1936. The tyre and technology department became an independent division in 1983 ( Semperit AG Holding) and Continental Gummiwerke AG (Hanover) took over the majority of the shares in 1985. In 1999, a turnover of ATS 4.7 billion was achieved with a workforce of 1,823 in the parent company in Traiskirchen, the only tyre manufacturing plant in Austria. The export rate amounts to 66 %.
