Styria Medien AG#
Styria, Medien AG, printing and publishing business founded in 1869 by the "Pressverein" publishing association of the (Graz-)Seckau diocese, forced by the National-Socialists to conform with their policies in 1938 and re-established in 1946; today a publishing and media company (a joint stock company since 1997) focusing on newspapers (majority shares in "Die Presse" and "Die Furche" as well as "Kleine Zeitung", spun off in 1999), newspaper printing, book publishing and sales as well as the electronic media. Subsidiaries and shares in other areas as well, e.g. Internet, on-line services, regional radio and cable TV. The publishing branch publishes approx. 60 new books every year (biographical series, religion, non-fiction, academic books and works on local issues). Turnover in 1998: about ATS 2,700 million, approx. 1,400 employees.
