Taxenbach#
Taxenbach, province of Salzburg, market town in the district of Zell am See, alt. 779 m, pop. 2966, area 88.25 km2, summer tourist resort (66,607 overnight stays) in central Salzachtal valley, situated at the entry into the Rauristal valley, in the lower Pinzgau region. - District court, contractors´ yard of the regional offices for torrent and avalanche control, agricultural vocational school; 2 power plants (privately owned); forestry, timber industry and trade. - First documentary mention in 963; deanery church (documented construction 1217, rebuilt in 1640 by S. Solari) with Gothic crypt, high altar (1685), Lady Chapel (1710); Gothic Eschenau parish church with wall paintings (14th century); Edtburg and Taxenbach castle ruins; Kitzlochklamm Gorge nearby.
