Theater der Jugend#
Theater der Jugend, established in 1932 by theatre-loving teachers and stage professionals and reorganised after 1945. The largest organisation for children´s and young people´s theatre, with 50,000 season-ticket holders (1999) of all age groups, Theater der Jugend arranges for school-children and young people to attend theatre performances and concerts in Vienna at reduced prices and also produces about 9 of its own productions each year (avant-garde plays, fairy tale adaptations, dance performances, plays with audience participation, rock ´n ´roll-theatre, pantomimes, jazz musicals). Standing venues are the Renaissancetheater and the Theater im Zentrum; from time to time other Vienna stages are also used. In addition to the stage productions, which are often commissioned works by Austrian authors, theatre-related educational activities are also offered, to which educational advisors also contribute. Emphasis is placed on theatrical innovation as well as on commitment to addressing contemporary age-group-specific problems.
