Trieben#
Trieben, Styria, town in the district of Liezen, alt. 709 m, pop. 4,026, area 45.54 km2, situated in the Paltental valley close to the confluence of the Paltenbach stream and Triebenbach stream. - Welfare office of the District Commission, old people´s home, dentists´ surgery, leisure centre, youth centre, airfield, run-of-river power station on Triebenbach stream (built in 1995); production of fireproof materials ( Veitsch-Radex GmbH), aluminium processing (mounting of metal fittings, metal works), building trade; graphite mining (shut down in 1993). - Old parish church (documented mention in 1160, Gothic structure from the 15th °century) with Gothic west portal, high altar (built between 1650 and 1675) with Gothic wooden sculpture (15th century.); new parish church (1961-1963) with Gothic glass painting (15th century); Protestant church (1959). In the cadastral community of Dietmannsdorf: Romanesque filial church (second half of the 12th century) with numerous frescoes (14th and 15th centuries); in St. Lorenzen (oldest parish in the Paltental valley, documented mention in 1125): Romanesque parish church, rebuilt in 1480 after being destroyed by the Turks, altered in Baroque style between 1677 and 1678, Gothic fresco (14th century), statues by B. Prandtstaetter.
