Tunnelbauweise, Neue Österreichische#
New Austrian Tunnelling Method: L. v. Rabcewicz had obtained the first patent for a new tunnelling method in 1948, which formed the basis for the New Austrian Tunnelling Method developed between 1957-1965: The essential features of the new method are that the ground formations are treated as supporting structures with a flexible concrete lining as a modified surface, and the tunnel is seen, for calculation purposes, as a closed, thick-walled tube. The New Austrian Tunelling Method is used all over the world for building tunnels for roads, railways and for underground railway systems.
