VA Technologie AG, VA Tech#

VA Technologie AG, VA Tech, industrial group formed in 1993 by the reorganisation of the nationalised (see) Austrian Industries AG, went public in 1994, when the majority interest in the company was privatised. By 1997, government interest via (see) Oesterreichische Industrieholding AG (OeIAG) had been reduced to 24%, while (see) VOEST-ALPINE STAHL AG held 19,05 % and 56,95 % were distributed holdings. The group's principal activities include metallurgical technology (including the construction of complete steel mills), power and environmental engineering (including power station construction) and manufacturing plant engineering (e.g. the Lyocell plant at Heiligenkreuz, Burgenland); the group's (see) Corex® process is marketed worldwide. Its subsidiaries include (see) VA TECH ELIN GmbH and (see) VA TECH ELIN EBG GmbH as well as numerous Austrian and international subsidiaries; in addition the group holds interests at home and abroad (including a 19,9 % interest in VOEST-ALPINE STAHL AG). Group sales in 1997 amounted to ATS 38.4 billion; in the same year its staff totalled 17.986 employees. From 1993 to 1999 its CEO was O. (see) Puehringer, who was suceeded by Erich Becker in 1999.
