Wörle, Eugen#

b. Bregenz (Vorarlberg), Jan. 3, 1909, d. Vienna, Dec. 14, 1996, architect. Student of C. Holzmeister at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, from where he graduated in 1932. Worked in the studios of E. Lichtblau, C. Holzmeister and M. Fellerer. Worked freelance with Fellerer from 1936-1942 and from 1945-1957. Independent architect since then. Contributed greatly to preserving significant early modernist buildings (Wittgenstein House, Loos Bar). Awarded the Austrian State Prize for Architecture in 1963.

Vienna: Took part in planning the Per-Albin-Hansson Apartment Buildings, 1947-1951, 1954-1955; Gaensehaeufel bathing area, 1948-1950; Concordiahof, 1952-1958 (with M. Fellerer and F. Hasenoerl); rebuilding of the Vienna Parliament (design of the plenary hall 1955/56); extension to the Federal Ministry of Finance (with M. Fellerer); extension to the Academy of Applied Art, 1960-1965 (with K. Schwanzer); school building in the F.-Hedorfer-Strasse, 1970-1971 (with F. Kitt); office and apartment buildings. - Lower Austria: terraced housing estate, Moedling, 1967-1970.
