Weltausstellung in Wien#
World Exhibition, Vienna. Held between May and November 1873, at various locations in Vienna, including the Rotunde (Prater), which was built especially for the exhibition; it was meant to demonstrate to the world the power and glory of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy in the Gruenderzeit (Age of Promoterism). The world exhibition (with more than 1,000 participants) was seen by around seven million people, among whom were prominent contemporary personalities (the German Emperor, the Tsar of Russia, the Kings of Belgium, Italy, Sweden and other countries); however, due to the stock market crash of May 9, 1873 ( Black Friday) and an epidemic of cholera, the exhibition was not as successful as expected and resulted in a large deficit.
