Yspertal#
Yspertal, Lower Austria, market town in the district of Melk, alt. 498 m, pop. 1,834, area 47.66 km2, in the valley of the River Grosse Ysper, at the foot of the Grosser Peilstein mountain (alt. 1061 m) in the southern Waldviertel region. - Advanced-level school of ecology and economics with boarding house (private); concrete works, trade; Waldviertel workshops, popular destination for day-trips (Ysperklamm gorge). - At Ysper, parish church with Gothic core and Baroque nave, massive tower and neo-Gothic interior. Pillory (early 17th century); late-Romanesque/Gothic parish church in Altenmarkt, altered in Baroque style in 1738/39, copies of Gothic stained glass; museum of local history and culture in former school building.
