Zumbusch, Caspar von#

b. Herzebrock (Germany), Nov. 23, 1830, d. Rimsting near Prien on Lake Chiem (Germany), Sept. 27, 1915, sculptor. First training in Munich; 1857/58 study trip to Rome; 1866 to 1872 sculptured the monument to Emperor Maximilian II in Munich. Professor at the Vienna Academy from 1873 to 1901; where he created his most important works, the monuments to Beethoven (1873-1880) and Maria Theresia (1873-1888), as well as the equestrian statues to field marshal Count Radetzky (1891) and Archduke Albrecht (1898/99). Most outstanding sculptor of the second half of the 19th century in Vienna.
