The light colour of the elephant is a result of his rolling in mud and the resulting dried mud layer. The reason why he does that is that on the one hand because it cools and on the other hand because the mud layer is a protective layer for the skin.
Der Elefant ist so hell, weil er sich in Schlamm gewälzt hat, einerseits zur Kühlung und andererseits dient die Schlammschichte als Schutz für die Haut. Der getrocknete Schlamm ergibt die helle Farbe.
