The cathedral is a typical example of Romanesque architecture, although it was modified in later centuries. The altar cross, dating back to the year of 1187, a Byzantine icon donated by Barbarossa as a sign of peace and the frescoes in the "Chapel of the Bishop of Eroli" are worth to be seen and in the adjoining chapel there are still more frescoes from the 16th century. The church also contains a polychrome wood statue of the Madonna from the 14th century and a choir from the 16th century, under which lies the crypt of the former cathedral of San Primiano.
