Brasov Brasov (deutsch Kronstadt, ungarisch Brassó, historisch auch Stephanopolis, 1950–1960 Orașul Stalin) ist eine Großstadt mit etwa 250.000 Einwohnern, ca. 150 km östlich von Sibiu (Hermannstadt). Kronstadt wurde vom Deutschen Orden im frühen 13. Jahrhundert als südöstlichste deutsche Stadt in Siebenbürgen unter dem Namen Corona gegründet. 1225 mussten die Deutschordensritter ihren Sitz in Kronstadt verlassen (und übersiedelten ins Baltikum). Kronstadt war über Jahrhunderte neben Hermannstadt das kulturelle, geistige, religiöse und wirtschaftliche Zentrum der Siebenbürger Sachsen, die seit dem 12. Jahrhundert auf Einladung des ungarischen Königs in der Region siedelten und bis ins 19. Jahrhundert hinein die Mehrheit der Stadtbevölkerung bildeten. 2011 bekannten sich von den ca. 250.000 Einwohner nur noch etwas über 1.000 als Deutsche. Mehr zum Ort unter Brasov.

Brasov Brasov (German: Kronstadt; Hungarian: Brassó; historically also Stephanopolis; 1950–1960 Orașul Stalin) is a city of 250.000, some 150 km East of Sibiu (the former Hermannstadt). It was founded by the German Order in the early 13 th century as the most southeastern city of Transylvania (in German: Siebenbürgen) , originally under the name Corona. The German order was forced to leave the city in 1225, relocating to the Baltic states. Brasov was, together with Sibiu, the cultural, religious and economic center of the Transalvanain Saxons, who had started to migrate here at the invitation of the Hungarian kings. Till the 19th century they represented the majority of the population. However, in 2011 of the 250.000 inhabitants only a bit over 1.000 identified themselves as German.
