Heimatwerk#
Heimatwerk, independent bodies under public law in the provinces, aimed at the cultivation of "traditional folk art, craft products and traditional costumes" (as stipulated in the charter). They sell their products, partly hand-crafted, partly manufactured in small workshops (e.g. rural pottery, wooden vessels, traditional costumes, articles for interior decoration, embroidery) in all the provincial capitals. The first Austrian Heimatwerk was founded 1933/34 in Styria by V. Geramb modelled on Sweden and Switzerland; further branches were set up in Linz 1941 and in Salzburg 1942. After World War II the Heimatwerk expanded to all the provinces.
