Karlau#
Karlau Palace, built between 1584 and 1590 in late Renaissance style in Graz by Antonio Tade and Antonio Marmoro for archduke Karl II of Styria; from 1769 used as a workhouse, it became a provincial penitentiary (Provinzialstrafhaus) in 1803, in 1847/48 and from 1869 to 1872 greatly enlarged, today it is still a prison.
