Landrecht#
Landrecht, was the law which was in force in a given province or region in the Middle Ages. The development from the Bavarian standard law to a separate Landrecht was decisive for the establishment of the Austrian provinces. The Austrian Landrecht emerged during the Babenberg era and was documented around 1278 during the reign of King Rudolf I and in 1298 during the reign of Albrecht I. The Landrecht of Styria was based on customary law, it was probably written during the 2nd half of the 14th century and was valid in Carinthia as well. The Landrecht of Tirol emerged towards the end of the 13th century. In Salzburg, Archbishop Friedrich III summed up the Landrecht in a Landesordnung in 1328.
