Nachbar in Not#
Nachbar in Not (Neighbour in Need), a relief scheme started by the Austrian broadcasting corporation ORF, Caritas and the Red Cross in 1992 in order to help the population in the war zones of the former Yugoslavia. More than ATS 1.1 billion had been donated by late 1997 (supported by other European Broadcasting Corporations), which made the transport of 3,676 truckloads of goods (ca. 73,520 tons) possible. More than 300,000 refugees and expellees, regardless of their origin or religion, were supplied with these goods. Nachbar in Not is the largest private humanitarian relief scheme for people in the Balkan countries.
