Obdach#
Obdach, Styria, market town in the district of Judenburg, alt. 874 m, pop. 2,068, area 42.88 km2, north of Obdacher Sattel pass (955 m) on an ancient trade route to Carinthia dating back to Roman times. Forest ranger station, biomass heating plant; manufacturing industry (esp. lawn-mowers), clothing industry, small-scale tourism during the summer months. Parish church (Romanesque and late Gothic style, adapted in the 17th century) with nave and two side aisles (first documented mention in 1207) and West Tower (1757-1769), a late Gothic fresco of St. Christophorus (early 16th century) and statue of seated St. Aegyd (around 1470); hospital church (adaptations during the 16th and 17th centuries) with high altar (around 1660-1670) and statues of saints in late Gothic style (around 1470), in the chapels carved altars (1715 and 1712) and column with statue of the Virgin Mary (1716); former Rosenbach Castle (reconstruction in 1880); gate tower; group of 15th -century burghers' houses (town centre).
