Boys' Choirs: The tradition of Boys' Choirs in Austrian monasteries and abbeys as well as in the Wiener Hofmusikkapelle goes back to the fact that women were not allowed to take part in the performance of music during divine service. The Boys' Choirs training institutes had few students (in Vienna about 15 boys). In the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century many of these institutes had to close down. The most famous Boys' Choirs nowadays are the Vienna Boys' Choir, and the Boys' Choirs of the abbeys Altenburg, Zwettl and Sankt Florian.
