Schweiggers#
Schweiggers, Lower Austria, market town in the district of Zwettl, alt. 633 m, pop. 3,067, area 58.65 km2, northwest of Zwettl; coach company, wood processing industry. - Parts of the medieval town wall preserved; pillory (1722); column dedicated to the Virgin Mary (1688); parish church, documented mention 1157, hall church with Romanesque core, altered in Gothic style around 1450, Baroque interior, altar piece by M. J. Schmidt; Freihof Castle has been used as parsonage since 1400, present building dates from the 16th century.
