Stelzhamer, Franz#
b. Grosspiesenham (municipality of Pramet, Upper Austria), Nov. 29, 1802, d. Henndorf near Salzburg, July 14, 1874, poet and narrative writer. Led an unsettled life until 1824, his songs "Lieder in obderenns'scher Volksmundart" mark his breakthrough 1837; considered the most important representative of Upper Austrian vernacular literature from a rural environment. Journalist in Vienna until 1842, then in Upper Austria, Salzburg and Germany. A honorarium paid by the Province of Upper Austria eventually provided him with livelihood.
