had barely 20,000 inhabitants in 1930, in 1970 it had already 95,000 - but the big boom was yet to come: In the year 2000, the 600,000-mark was passed and since then the population has almost quadrupled again - to 2.3 millions. King Attalus had founded the city in the second century before Christ, by proclaiming: 'Find me a place on earth whose beauty blinds all eyes and which all the kings will envyme for. There a city shall arise worthy to bear my name and which shall be famous among all peoples'. And indeed - the wish came true. Today, Antalya is more famous than ever with its 7 million tourists a year - but it can be doubted if Attalus had imagined this.

hatte 1930 kaum 20.000 Einwohner, 1970 waren es schon 95.000 – doch der große Boom stand erst bevor: Im Jahr 2000 überschritt man die 600.000-Marke und seitdem hat sich die Einwohnerzahl nochmals fast vervierfacht – auf 2,3 Millionen. König Attalus hatte die Stadt im 2. vorchristlichen Jahrhundert gegründet – mit folgenden Worten: 'Findet mir auf dieser Erde einen Ort, dessen Schönheit alle Augen blendet und um den mich alle Könige beneiden werden. Dort soll eine Stadt entstehen, die würdig ist, meinen Namen zu tragen und die unter allen Völkern berühmt sein wird'. Und tatsächlich – der Wunsch ging in Erfüllung. Heute ist Antalya mit seinen jährlich 7 Mio. Touristen berühmter denn je – doch ob Attalus sich das so vorgestellt hat, darf doch bezweifelt werden.
